Phase I

During phase one, teachers tried to gauge the pre-existing knowledge of children about names of animals, their food habits, habitat, uses and care of animals. Teachers made observations and noted down the prior knowledge children had about the animals along with their misconceptions. Children were given opportunities to express their understanding verbally and non-verbally through different activities like art, clay work and creating stories .

Children's prior knowledge of Animals

Ruhaan - "Animals can make sound like this, animals are like cows, cows are making moo.... and super dogs can run fast, because super dogs has super hero moves."

Aarav - "Animals ke four legs hote hai, ek tail hoti hai, aur maathe pe horn hote hai, ears already hote hai."

Vanshil - "Cow ko singh hote hai (Horns)."

Ruhaan's mouse likes to live in the house

Dhyana - "Cat, meow, home pe maari che ne maari friend che, hu ene roti aapu, dudh aapu."

Siaan – "Cow joyi che, dog ane cow aey badha j mane khabar che, lion, cheetah, tiger, aey badha daravna che.", "Aey jungle ma hoy, pachhi khavanu leva jay, aemni mate bacha mate, pachhi khay jay."

Vihani - "Bow wow karenge, all animals ek bow wow, hoop hoop, wolf- owwwww, crocodile- cook cook."

Prisha - "Teacher aa giraffe yellow colour nu hoy, giraffe nu neck motu motu (Long) hoy."

Shivaanya - "Car ma b jaaye che dog", "Caspy, paachal, mere ghar ke piche, niche toh pehle mango ka ghar aata hai, chal ke chal ke jaate hai na toh, paachal mere ghar k piche."
